How to Stay Physically and Mentally Healthy While Working from Home

Working from home has been a huge change for so many of us. Not only are we no longer seeing our co-workers on a daily basis, the change in work and personal life has caused anxiety and stress for so many people.

Here we share some ideas for staying physically healthy while working from home.

Start Right

Before sitting down at your desk for the day, have a spot of exercise. This could be 5 minutes dancing to your favourite tunes to boost your mood. It could be a little walk or some yoga and meditation. This will help you boost your mood for the day ahead, but it will also help rest your body and mind in preparation for the day. You’ll find physical exercise during the day will help you sleep better at night too.

Moving Breaks

Put a reminder on your phone or a notification to pop up and remind you to move. You should get up and stretch at least once an hour. Make sure you schedule in time for a short walk or 15 minutes of exercise once or twice a day too. These small exercises and stretches will help you refresh yourself mentally and physically. At the end of the day make sure you turn off your computer or laptop and step away. Your mind needs a rest from work.

Invest in Furniture

When lockdown was first announced we were working from kitchen tables, beds, sofas and more. This is not good for your mental health or your physical health. Try to find a space in your home where you can work from. This will help your mental health as you are creating a split between work and life. You need the right furniture to work from too. A chair that supports your lower back and helps you sit up straight is essential for your physical health.

Stay Social

Many people don’t realise how much face to face and social interaction takes place in the office. This is great for your mental health. However, you don’t realise how much this social interaction matters until it’s gone. Socialising is so important for mental health. Why not arrange with a friend to go for a covid-safe, socially distanced walk? This will tick the mental and physical health boxes and you’ll really notice the boost in your mood from the chatting, fresh air, and exercise.

You, your mental health, and your physical health are so important – make sure you are looking after yourself.
